Going on vacation? Take these steps for your lawn and landscape:

  • Set up a watering/irrigation plan based on your expectations of the lawn. Going for a green lawn? Set your irrigation system to water every other day and double check that your rain sensor is functioning to turn off your system if it rains. If you don’t have a system, arrange someone to water every couple of days. Okay with some brown? If you are gone for a few days, consider watering before you leave and then watering as needed when you return. If you are gone for a week or more, schedule irrigation to run weekly or someone to stop by to check on things once a week.
  • Mow your lawn just prior to leaving. If you are going to be gone for more than 3 days, we recommend mowing just before you leave. When you return, you may need to raise your mowing height to not cut off more than 1/3rd of the leaf blade. If you are going to be gone for more than a week, consider arranging someone to check in on your lawn and mow it if necessary.
  • For potted plants and landscape plants, we recommend you water them just prior to leaving. If your trip will be more than 3 days, we recommend setting up irrigation or having someone check on them.
